Hugh is an Australian-American vocalist, songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer.
In a 25 year career kickstarted by winning Australia's Star Search male vocalist in the early 90s, he has performed onstage with Lenny Kravitz, Steve Tyler (Aerosmith), Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Sarah Blasko, Jack Jones, Jared Grimes, Paul Colman, Steve Deal, Ben Butler (Spiderman Turn off the Dark, Sting), Mark Lau, Maria Christiansen and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers); and has recorded in the studio with/for a plethora of artists & producers including Ray Contreras, Savage Garden, the Leigh bros (Pseudo Echo), Ryland Angel, Noah Hoffeld, David Wolfert, Henry Hirsch, Seal, Faith Hill and a host of others.
Hugh's band Vertigo (later called Invertigo) reached the Australian top 40 in the late 90s, and Hugh has released over 25 independent album releases under either his own name, or with/as Brooklyn Social, King Luan, Huboi, The Bards of Lysidon, Gnome (Who Needs Leprechauns/Internetive), Drowning Jester, Pistols for Lily, Yoriki, Hugo & Lugo, The Greg Smeg Clegg Band, and Monkey Farm.
Hugh's also provided lead or backing vocals for Science for Girls (Sleepwatching), Steve Deal Band, Sarah Fimm (Red Yellow Sun EP), Berik Kulmamirov (The Kazakh Land EP), Glenn Shorrock ("Glenn Shorrock Sing's Little River Band" EP), Savage Garden ("Savage Garden" EP), Roscoe Delirious (Tone EP), Melanie Penn (Train) and many many others.
Hugh's voice has appeared in countless commercials worldwide, recognisable examples being Sprite Zero (Falling Away) Ghirardelli Rendezvous, Old Spice 'Best Friends', and I want my Foxtel (Australia).
His singing and compositions have been in numerous US productions such as What We Do In The Shadows (King Luan), Wynonna Earp (with both King Luan & Hugh Wilson), Family Reunion, Dora The Explorer, Celebrity Apprentice, My Soul To Take, Sigmund & the Sea Monster and Paladin Pictures' The Rebellion of Thought; as well as composing a longtime theme for NBC's "Wednesday Night Rivalry".
At various times, people have compared Hugh's voice to Bono, Jeff Buckley, Chris Martin, Roland Orzabal, Iva Davies, Peter Cetera, Jim Morrison, Elvis, David Bowie, Josh Groban, Paul Brady, Ryan Adams, John Lennon and Michael Hutchence and has often be hired for his ability to blend or adjust tone in soundalike fashion, or provide "The Hugh Choir" (to quote Human Worldwide's Andy Bloch)
Hugh has also composed and written numerous commercials, including the aforementioned Ghirardelli, as well as for Nivea, Fruit Shoot, UMass, Clean & Clear, Daimler Benz, NBC Wednesday Night Rivalry, Ugg, Rewe (Germany) and Helene Fischer Meggle spots (Germany), and has written music in a wide array of genres and styles.
Hugh and his wife Anne have been Worship Leaders in the NYC area, and over the 15 years in NYC Hugh has sung in Redeemer Presbyterian, Times Square Church, Grace NY, C3 Manhattan, Bay Ridge Christian Center, Ressurection Brooklyn, Grace Redeemer Teaneck and The Waters NJ, CityView Church in Forestville, NSW and various Sydney Anglican churches.
From his Brooklyn base, Hugh has sung in such iconic venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Hammerstein Ballroom, the Manhattan Ballroom, the Cutting Room, the Bitter End, Arlene's Grocery.
As a backing vocalist for Lenny Kravitz, Hugh sang in stadiums such as the Tacoma Dome and the Staples Center in LA.
Aside from sessions, Hugh is always recording, and is currently finishing a number of projects. He regularly performs in bars and churches either solo acoustic, with various bands: 1977-The Hits, Joseph Calderazzo's "The Great Gig in the Sky", and Australian Fleetwood Mac Show, an Eagles/Doobie Brothers show, an Irish music project - the Sharkey Finns, or various duo/trio combos with guitarists Michael Dolce, Steve Crain or Jeff Lenham and/or Saxophonists Joel Sena and Spike Mason.
